Here is a link to a video putting the Debt Ceiling in terms of an individual. While the video does help us think about the situation in more personal terms I can't be sure it is a fair comparison. Unlike the US Government and others, individual human citizens have a life expectancy and DO NOT have a printing press. Also individuals do not have a military enforcing that I pay taxes in the currency issued by the US Government.
Watch the short humorously scary video and remember to wonder if the simple explanation is not over simplified. Also note the rights of the short film are owned by an entertainment company. I am not saying we don't have a problem with the size of the US debt. What I am saying is that this film only talks about the problem in a way that would likely have most people giggling or nodding in agreement while continuing to be part of the problem.
