Pain in the Back

The perfect follow-up to the last blog post on disability.  In the most recent Economist magazine this insert--sourced from the Lancet--shows the results from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation study on the burden of disability on countries.  The legend is as follows:

  • Red countries--lower back pain
  • Blue--major depression
  • Green--anemia
  • Maroon--HIV
  • Yellow--diabetes
The results were surprising to me and of course this is just one study. However,  it is likely that there is a large percentage of the developed world's population suffers from some form of back pain.
So if we are interested in a quality of life that extends as far as possible and we want to save ourselves and our country money, a proactive strategy like was mentioned in the previous post, just might be what the doctor ordered.
