Grandmother's Account Book

Not long ago I was meeting with a client, and she pulled out a little handbook. In that book were pages of monetary figures. When I asked her about the ledgers, she explained that this is how she helps her grandkids understand and keep track of their money.

A novel idea! Especially in a world that encourages spending almost before we have the money to do so. It’s so easy these days for young people to become consumed with crippling amounts of debt.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. My client created her own ingenious way to help her grandchildren be more savvy with their finances. Perhaps we can all follow her example. If we can teach our kids at a young age to be accountable and smart with their money, we’ll be giving them something invaluable.
