Tech and People Interface
Recently a friend said something like—“Technology works just
good enough to make me think it is helpful.”
I often say—“technology is great…until it’s not.”
Below are notes from a session by the lady who wrote a
book I so enjoy called “Willful Blindness”. These
notes are excerpts from her thinking about AI and our
response as humans. Look up her Youtube lectures if
you find her ideas compelling. She has been in
my head for many years so my enthusiasm may be a bit higher
than average for her way of thinking. Enjoy!

First Date Finances

DATE FINANCES — (a sweet story)
One of my favorite things about the work I do is the privilege of
getting to hear stories like this one from a couple who I have grown
to respect and admire over many years. Hope you enjoy this piece
of real life here in OKC.
“Have I told you about our first date?” Mr. B. asked me (his financial advisor)
while his wife was out of the room for a moment. “No, I’ve not heard.”
I replied with an eager tone.
“For our first date we went to a nice Italian place, had a pleasant
meal and conversation, and I got up to pay the bill. While fiddling with
my wallet, my date walked up and asked—“are you having issues with
your credit card?”—to which I replied,
NO. I am trying to find my 2 for 1
coupon.”
“Her positive response is part of why we have such a happy marriage
after decades of life together.”

Who Ever Heard of....
Obesogens are defined as compounds which cause weight gain.
They may act directly to increase the number of fat cells or the storage of fat
within the cells. Alternatively, they may act less directly through altering
appetite, metabolic rate, or energy balance.

THAT's a Neighborhood I Want to Live In
I have been involved in Homeowners associations (HOA) in several different areas over the years. Often, I mention that the most difficult and surprising business experiences in my life were HOA’s. Below is a letter I recently received from a new HOA we are considering moving into. Being a CITIZEN owner is important to me and the letter below is THE BEST I have ever seen coming from an HOA. We own a lot in this old established area, but this letter attracted me even more to want to LIVE there. If you are in an area with an HOA, I encourage you to find ways to participate in the operations of the community. Maybe this will help our country find common ground amongst neighbors—where we can have the most impact—and help get our country more UNITED in our quest for an ever-brighter future.
One other aspect of this is the leadership of the HOA. Often those who
volunteer are the ones who receive all the complaints. That is normal but
a little encouragement and appreciation helps a lot too. As costs
continue to rise, a little community sweat-equity can go a long way.
